     Frequently Asked Questions
    Are your plants guaranteed?
All of our hardy trees, shrubs, evergreens, vines (excl. Clematis) and fruit bushes, are guaranteed for three years from date of purchase. If they die within one year of purchase, the value paid for the plant will be applied to another tree, shrub, evergreen, vine or fruit bush of equal or greater value to that originally paid. If the original plant dies in the second or third after purchase, ½ of the value paid will be applied toward another tree, shrub, evergreen, vine or fruit bush of equal or greater value. Clematis, rose trees (when available), clearance and 'as is' merchandise are not guaranteed. Most fruit trees are guaranteed for one year from date of purchase as are also a few 'harder than average' plants to grow (Japanese maples, topiary, Hinoki cypresses, stone fruit trees, etc.) clearly labelled with blue tags identifying them as a 'Gardener's Challenge'. Hybrid Tea, Floribunda, and Grandiflora roses are guaranteed to be true to name and are warranted until October 1st of the year purchased. All hardy shrub roses, English Roses, Flower Carpet, Easy Elegance and 3 gallon roses are guaranteed for 1 year from date of purchase. Rhododendrons are not considered hardy to our area, and are excluded from our warranty. There is no warranty on annuals or perennials including ornamental grasses. The purchaser is responsible for the planting and maintenance of the plant after purchase. We provide simple planting instructions and our Customer Service associates will attempt to assist, inform and advise a purchaser as to how to plant and maintain your plant at every opportunity given to us via phone, email or on our warranty web page. However, if the condition of the plant changes, and no IMMEDIATE corrective action is taken or if no assistance is requested, and if the plant dies as a result of this neglect, then we reserve the right to amend or reject our offer of complete warranty replacement.
Why don't you sell mulch in bulk?
There are three reasons actually. Bagged mulch offers a consistent volume in each bag, with no settling. A 2 cu. ft. bag will get you 2 cu. ft. of product on the ground, and 13.5 bags is equivalent to a cubic yard. Secondly, applying bagged mulch is far less labour intensive. Each bag can be easily carried and placed directly next to the location, and then a quick rip and dump and you will have it spread quite quickly. This is much easier than shovelling it from a pile to a wheelbarrow and then from a wheelbarrow to the bed. Finally, there is no waste. You can put on EXACTLY the right amount. With bulk mulch if you estimate too much material, the tendency is to overapply the extra (and that's not generally a good idea for many plants). With bagged mulch, any extra can be conveniently stored for another project or another season. ** We do offer bulk Nincompoop Mulch in quantities of 3 cu. yards or more.
    Do you offer delivery?
We will deliver most nursery stock items (trees, shrubs, evergreens etc.) and other garden accessory items. Our local and crosstown delivery range encompasses all of Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge and Guelph. Our extended delivery range extends north to Fergus, east to Rockwood, south to Ayr, and west to New Hamburg. Delivery fees are based on dollar value purchase, weight of product being shipped, and distance to be travelled. We can, and have, delivered farther afield - with each circumstance priced separately. We do not deliver into the GTA east of Campbellville, and we are unable to ship plants outside of our general vicinity.
How do I know if my plant has died?
This isn't always an easy question to answer, as many environmental conditions can damage the appearance of a plant without killing it. However, the simplest and surest way is to use the scratch test. Simply take your fingernail scratch the 'skin' of the bark on the plant in several places OTHER than right on the very tips. DON'T BREAK OFF A BRANCH! If there is green tissue below the skin of the bark, the plant is not dead, and still has the potential to produce new growth. If the leaves are damaged, our customer service staff may be able to assist you in determining what has happened.
Do you special order plant material?
We pride ourselves in having one of the broadest possible assortments of plant material in Waterloo Region. However, there are many instances where a particular specimen or unusual plant is requested, and we have the sources and reputation to acquire the very best possible plants possible. In April, May or June, special orders can arrive within a very short time of order placement. During the other months, availability and distance to source may limit the speed at which the order is filled, but we have been pretty successful in finding the rare and beautiful to all who ask. Plants requested that are of marginal hardiness to this area may be sold without warranty.
Are pets permitted entry at Grobe's?
Registered service animals are always welcome at Grobe's. Pre-pandemic, only pets that could be carried in your arms at all times were permitted inside our store or in our nursery stock sales yard due to liability, safety, allergy, phobia and property damage concerns. We regret that NO PETS at all other than AODA recognized service animals are permitted entry.
Do you sell your plants online?
Our website is informational. It is not an online portal to enable green goods purchases. It is by no means a complete listing of the tens of thousands of items we offer for sale from our 'bricks and mortar' location near Kitchener, nor of the further thousands of plants that we have access to and can special order from the many Ontario growers who supply to us. We can and do communicate personally with many people every year who purchase and pick up products at our store pre-ordered and paid for in full over the phone with a credit card.
Is there a charge for delivery?
Yes, it is based on proximity to the garden centre, size and weight of items being delivered, and in the value of purchases made.
Where do you offer delivery of the plants or products you sell?
We deliver plants and products with our own truck within a delivery range that in general encompasses a 30 km radius from where we are - Waterloo Region (Kitchener/Waterloo/Cambridge), Guelph and large parts of Wellington County ONLY. With our location as the 'centre', this area extends north to Fergus, west to Wellesley and New Hamburg, south to Ayr or Branchton and east to Puslinch/Morriston/Rockwood.
    Do you deliver anywhere else?
It is possible to hire our truck and driver to deliver plants and products directly adjacent to the area delineated above. Delivery in such a circumstance is estimated by the hour charged both ways, is only done prepaid, and is subject to both truck and driver being available (i.e. generally not during peak season).
Do you ship items into the Greater Toronto Area?
We do not ship plants outside of our general vicinity here in Southern Ontario as we do not have a method that is cost effective, ensures survivability, and conforms also to the phytosanitary requirements that may be necessary. Our plant quality is of paramount importance to us (and also to the thousands of people who visit us here) and we will not settle for having any customer unhappy with something they have purchased 'sight-unseen'.
Do you ship plants across the border to the US?
We do not do this either (largely for the same reasons indicated above).
